It's not ALL about the baby

yeah yeah...tell that to the baby!  Truly..its not ALL about him.  Amazingly, I still have more members of my brood to love on, talk about and well...blog my mind about.   

This weekend, we had a party for my darling Stephen's birthday and celebrated two other birthdays for our friends as well.  What a great time!  We had food!  Food.  Did I mention the food?  Oh my gosh...we had FOOD!   Large trays of delicious eggplant parmesan, pasta with chicken, red peppers and spinach all covered in a creamy sauce...(it makes my thighs cringe just looking at it)..there was this scrumptious artichoke dip that our friend Kim made...a huge salad...wines of all kinds...bruscetta to die for...and last but definately the most amazing...was this really tall, unbelievably succulent coconut cake!   Isn't it gorgeous?!

So we ate.  Of course.

We laughed.  Stephen laughed the most.

We played a very cool round of Balderdash...which I won,oh yes.. thanks to my amazing talent or gift of being able to write a bunch of B.S.  Yes, yes, I can!  Imagine that.  (Hush!)

And ultimately, we had a wonderful birthday celebration with our dear friends.   Oh how truly good it was! 

Being in this house has allowed us to have large groups of friends here and somehow that just warms my heart over and over again.  It is an honor to share our dwelling with friends.   We even had my dear friend Joelle fly in from Illinois for the weekend...oh how I hated to see her go back home.  Her visit means the world to me.   To have her meet Jack and cuddle him non-stop, well...he finally met his auntie...and he will probably never quite understand how blessed that makes him.  But indeed it does.

Now...because he's still so brand spankin new, I will include a photo of our now three week old baby boy.  Who am I kidding?  Can I just say...OH MY WORD, even though its not all about him...ohhhhh how we spend most of every single day just making it all about him?  If only he wasn't so darn adorable!  really.   He make us smile, grin...and smile some more.   So here's a little of that.  (grinning even at the thought of sharing these!)

To be Thank-full

This is my husband...  in the past couple of weeks, he's been a strength for me in so many ways!   He's cooked, cleaned, diapered, chauffeured our family...and worked like mad to be my knight.  I am soooo grate-full!

He took these photos the other day.   And through his eyes I saw new life in a different way.   I am utterly appreciative for this perspective....it is remarkable.

 

These are my older two boys...such truly great helpers...to each other and to me...I value this so much...

This is my sweet baby... his smell, his skin...his sweet hair...his perfect little nose...those hands...and feet...how can I even compare anything to his newness.  Its astounding.

Now I ask you...could I dare to question God's blessings?  Have I not been handed all that really matters in this life?   

Its not every day that I am full of thanks...how unfortunate...how regrettable. 

But today, I noticed.   Today mattered.   Today I found what I should always see...

...that to live, means that I should always be...truly Thank-full.
