Girls like me crazy!

Mar 01, 2014

Screen shot 2014-03-01 at 7.58.42 PMI stood in the NYC airport terminal, waiting impatiently to board an airplane that was headed toward a weekend away with two of my girlfriends in a town near Chicago.   My bag felt very heavy slung over my shoulder and I shifted my weight from side to side to relieve the pressure.  I was anxious to get on the airplane and sleep for a while before my big weekend.

From the corner of my eye, I felt a colorful presence whip past me - much like a hummingbird that moves rapidly from place to place.  I chose not to look.  But a few minutes later, the same colorful mass seemed to whip past the other side of me.   Curious, I turned and narrowed in on the person that was creating this buzz.   I found her.  A young woman.  Tall, pretty with straight platinum blond hair, big eyes and a brilliant smile.   She beamed like a huge ray of sunshine.   Living in New York, I had found that this is not such a popular personality in those parts.  She stood out, much like a white daisy, in the middle of a colossal, brown mud puddle.

She didn't seem to notice that she didn't fit into her surroundings.  Nor did she seem to care.  I was now transfixed and watched her intently.  It appeared that there was no one who was off-limits to this bright creature - she smiled at E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E.    When people refused to smile in return, it only seemed to generate an even greater determination in her, to smile all the more.

Wearing a light-weight, floral dress with short sleeves, I wondered if she knew that Chicago was even colder than New York.   And I tucked my jacket around me a bit tighter, feeling the chill in the air.

With love and warm fuzzies

Jenn & Jess

Just as you are

Feb 23, 2014

We, (Jess & Jenn) at The Lemonade Connection, believe in striving to be your best and somehow growing old gracefully.   That includes, living healthy, by eating good food (yes a vegetable here or there), working out and balancing our lives with God, friends, and family.

It also includes, large quantities vats of chocolate, when we hit the wall (some days more than others), glasses of wine when we are done with a hard week or hard day, slouching in ugly sweats all day when needed, and the art of doing "nothing" when motivation is all dried up.

The results of this kind of lifestyle:  perfectly imperfect loveliness.

There are places on my body that jiggle  - places I never knew could jiggle!  I have stretch marks like badges of honor.   I wake up with more bed-head than anyone should ever wake up with, (seriously, is there like a bed-head fairy that whips hair up like this?)   Both of my middle fingers tilt outward just a little. And then there's the frown furrow in my forehead, the chicken-neck I just mentioned the other day, the spider veins, the cellulite, the sagging places...oh this list...this list!

The ONE trip I refuse to go on!

Feb 22, 2014

ThetripI'm getting older.  Yes.  Totally true.  So are you.  (no denial, we keep it real here)

Many of my friends, hate the years that keep winding around them.  They stare horrified into mirrors that reflect sagging bit of skin.  There is a hyperfocus on what seems to be the inevitable etching away and yearly eroding at our once youthful beauty.   I get it.  It happens. It's not pretty.  It's aging.  And this aging thing, isn't for the faint of heart.

I admit, I am NOT into the chicken neck that is creeping in on me.   Nor am I excited about how my once luscious breasts, that on the outset, were perched high and mighty - now seem to be descending more toward my belly button...and appear to be on some sort of sick, headlong mission to meet up with my knees!  (ugh, Dude, what is that!?)   But ultimately, and I say this sincerely, all of this is a very, very, small part of getting older.   It's just the outside.  You hear me, image in the mirror?   Just the outside.

Love & Warm Fuzzies!

Feb 15, 2014

Screen shot 2014-03-03 at 1.35.53 PMHere we are...mid February. How many of you have stuck to your New Years resolutions? I know I would have bombed mine, BIG time by now...if I had made any. That's why I don't! Those resolutions are just too much pressure! I get all worked up and anxiety ridden over some stupid added "rule" I've placed on myself. Nope, I'm done with those.

This year...I'm all about new beginnings. 2013 was a year of many ups and downs for my little clan on our plot of land we call "the ranch". We had some amazingly fun times, but we were also laden with heartbreak...{more on that in another post.} I'm so glad 2014 is here and starting off well. I'm sooo looking forward to this new venture with my girl Jenn. I've never blogged before, in fact I have to admit...I'm a lurker! One of those people. {but I still love you if you happen to be a lurker too, I just want you to say hello} I read a bunch but rarely comment. My introverted nature...{Ok that's an excuse}...My FEAR of what others think of me has kept me quiet...but this is a fresh start for me and I'm changing my old ways.

In fact, I see a theme that God is working on with me...I don't really want to face it, but I know it's best for me...He's working on my fear! I have A LOT, mostly over things I can't control. He's been nudging me over several areas for awhile now. Sometimes I'm slow...or rebellious...but I've finally decided to let it go and embrace the new beginnings.

Poor love seat

Feb 13, 2014

I've been taking my sweet time on this girl. Life gets in the we all know! I wonder how long this is actually going to take me? If I can get some solid time, where I can work, and if during that time I'm feeling creative, I could probably whip it out! Um, who knows if and when that'll happen??
Besides, I still need your help in deciding what color I should paint it.

So far she's lost that lovely padded back. Whew!

Why one black hydraulic swivel chair could save you!

Feb 08, 2014

Hairday2014_FotorlIt's cold, dreary, and oh so very soggy outside today.  Our state has nearly declared the drought of 10 you won't find me complaining when our house nearly floats away in all this rainfall.

In the heart of the afternoon, I toss on my big clunky raincoat, with its adorable leopard print interior, and cross town in my grey hot-mom-minivan

I am freakishly proud to drive this vehicle, but I admit I could do without the lingering scent of sneakers, sweat, and body odor mixed with some sort of cornchips and garlic smell that seems to linger even months after our boys football season has ended.  Ehh...I'm a mom.  It comes with the territory I've found.  So I shrug it off and make a note to buy more coconut air freshners tomorrow.  Don't mind that I've said that for at least two months already, but forget as soon as I exit the car.  And then remember every time I step BACK into the van again.  (ugh!)

Showin' some love... on the love seat!

Feb 06, 2014

Screen shot 2014-02-06 at 3.26.30 PM{Isn't she cute?? Well, maybe after some love}

So...if you follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (both here and here), you've already heard about my newest "repurposing" project!

I found this cute little rocking love seat at a local antique/junk shop.  It was hidden underneath a bunch of junk!  Literally, junk.  I saw the edge pocking out and it caught my attention. I had to practice my lunges and balance postures to get back to it  {reminding me I should actuallty be at the gym and not shopping...but I prefer shopping}.  After I cleared space, I was able to pull it out and I just fell in love with it. It's quirky and fun but hideous all at the same time.  Screaming for me to help it... I couldn't resist.

This photos is the Before in all her glory, she's since been cleaned and wiped down and lysoled :) I hate the back pad, so that's going bye-bye. It has cute spindles all across the back so I'm going to show those off and add a throw pillow or 3!  The lovely brown pleather is going in the recycle bin.

These are the fabrics I chose to liven it up. As you can see, I love color and I'm not afraid to use it. The seat is going to be the grey and white patterned fabric.   And my throw pillows will be the 3 fun, Screen shot 2014-02-06 at 3.27.49 PMbright patterns. Throw pillows are so easy to switch out often, so I'm not afraid to use a whimsy, or trendy look. When I get tired of it -  {or when my kids ruin them} - it's so simple to just recover it with a new fabric.

Ok, so here's where I need your help....What color do I paint the wood??   It's dingy and old and is full of staple gun and tack holes.  So after I patch those,  it needs a fresh new color.  Now, you know I love color and I'm not afraid to use it, I wanted to paint it orange! I have orange accents in the room and I thought it would look great to go off of that, but hubby said NO WAY!  Sooo... I'm open for ideas!

Please help...leave me your thoughts in the comments. Most votes wins!!

I'm so excited to share this process with you!  Thanks for helping me.
